This privacy policy explains how Real Salary (https://realsalary.co.uk) handles your personal data in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).

The data controller is the person who determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data, within the meaning of the UK GDPR.
2. Data Protection Officer
Given the nature of the website and the absence of large-scale processing of personal data, the appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO) is not legally required under Article 37 of the UK GDPR. For data protection enquiries, please contact the controller using the details above.
3. What Data We Collect
Short answer: nothing you type into a calculator. All calculator inputs are processed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. We never see, store, or transmit your salary figures, tax codes, pension contributions, or any other financial information you enter into our calculators. The technical architecture is designed according to the principle of "privacy by design".
To be precise, the website itself does not collect or process the following categories of data:
- Financial data: salary, tax code, pension contributions, National Insurance number
- Identification data: name, address, phone number (unless voluntarily provided by email)
4. Cookies: Google Analytics Audience Measurement
Real Salary uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful: pages viewed, referring page, visit length, device and browser type, approximate country and city. To do so Google Analytics sets two cookies on your device, and the site sets no others:

These lifetimes are not extended on each visit; Google's default is 2 years. The IP address is anonymised: Google Analytics 4 neither logs nor stores it, and only uses it at collection time to derive an approximate country and city. The page address sent to Google Analytics is stripped of its parameters, and the figures you type into a calculator are never sent. There is no advertising and no remarketing: ad storage, ad user data, ad personalisation and Google signals are switched off, and measurement data is shared with no advertiser. The calculators themselves use no local or session storage: your gross salary, tax code, student loan plan or pension percentage disappears when you close the tab.
- Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, acting as our processor (Article 28 UK GDPR).
- Why: audience measurement, to know which salary calculators and guides people use.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).
- How long: 14 months at Google for visit-level and identifier-level data, then deletion; only anonymous totals remain.
- How to object: block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Every calculator still works.
5. Anonymous Stability Check (Microsoft Clarity, Cookieless)
To spot broken calculators and slow pages, we run a technical, anonymous check of how the site
behaves: script errors, load times, clicks that do nothing and how far pages are scrolled. We use
Microsoft Clarity in its cookieless mode: before the Clarity script is loaded, it
receives a signal that storage is denied. Clarity then sets no _clck,
_clsk, MUID or CLID cookie, gives every page view a fresh
identifier and does not connect one visit to another. Page text and the figures you enter are
masked in your browser before anything leaves it.

- Why: to find and fix errors in the UK salary calculators.
- How long: recordings 30 days, aggregated statistics 13 months.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests in a working website (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).

6. Hosting and Server Logs
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any web host, GitHub keeps technical server logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to keep the service secure; we have no access to them. Fonts are served from this site itself, not from a third party. There are no social media buttons or advertising widgets.
7. Emails
If you write to us, we use your address and message only to reply, and delete them within 12 months of the last exchange. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
Under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights:
- Right of access (Art. 15): obtain confirmation of whether personal data is being processed and access to that data.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16): obtain correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure (Art. 17, "right to be forgotten"): obtain deletion of personal data.
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18): restrict processing in certain cases.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20): receive data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Art. 21): object to processing on grounds relating to your particular situation.
- Right to lodge a complaint: with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9. Transfers Outside the UK
Google Analytics data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States, and Microsoft and GitHub may process technical data there. These transfers rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension (the "UK-US data bridge"), and on standard contractual clauses (with the UK addendum).
10. Data Retention
Calculator inputs are never stored. Google Analytics cookies last 13 months at most and Google keeps the related data for 14 months. Clarity keeps recordings for 30 days and aggregated statistics for 13 months; emails are deleted within 12 months.
11. Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
